GILI ISLAND TRAVEL TIPS

Most visitors avoid taking boat from Bangsal harbor due to local vendor pushing you with any kind of trick. It is advised to book your transfer arrangement through Tour Operator with private service for your comfort and safety.

Instead of Bangsal Harbor, we recommend you to take speedboat from Teluk Nare  to the three gili islands. If you are a budget traveler and having no choice, just go straight to  ticket sales office located on the beach. Aware of any offer from the local people who might say that the boat has already gone. Register yourself at ticketing office and wait till the passenger full.

GETTING ONBOARD THROUGH BANGSAL HARBOR

Be aware……! When you go onboard to the local boat, please be careful with your staff to avoid of getting wet. Wear your slipper and pant due to wave and low tide.

MANAGE YOUR STAFF BANGSAL HARBOR

Please do not give any local porter to carry your private staff for any reasons. They might ask more money for porter fee and they can act as boatman crew. Regular porter will cost around 1000 – 3000 per Bag.

LOCAL BEACH SELLER & COMMON ISSUES

Avoid buying mosquitoes coil from beach seller at the harbor, as they are trying to sell at the highest price as possible. There is small shop selling those things with reasonable price.

Do not buy any mosquitoes coil from some kids at the harbor, as they are trying to sell things at the highest they can. There are lots of shops on the Islands selling those stuffs with better prices. Please do not look and promise anything to them. As they will follow you and force to buy their things.

Avoid from local kid who bring water to wash your feet. Since they will charge you of any service they have given. Prefer to go away from crowd of these kids instead of giving them something.

LAND TRANSFER ARRANGEMENT

If you need to go by private chartered car, try negotiating to the best rates better than argue at the end of the service.

SWIMMING OR SNORKELING

Various color of coral and fish such as Jelly fish, Stone fish can be found at snorkeling spot. Be a ware of the stone fish since these fish are found they are found poisonous. This kind of fish usually hide and camouflage on the coral reefs. Also, be aware of strong currents while swimming or snorkeling. Prefer to ask advice dive master before swimming.

Jelly Fish is almost invisible on the water. It looks like a crystal/plastic, but very dangerous. Some kind of jelly fish makes your skin itchy, and some are poisonous.

Prepare your self with Sun Cream. The weather can be very humid.

Do not leave any valuable thing or staff on the beach while swimming or snorkeling. Put them on safe deposit box at the hotel where you stay.
