LESSER SUNDA ISLANDS OVERVIEW

The islands lie immediately to
the east of Bali known as west and east Nusa Tenggara (The
Island of west south east).
West Nusa Tenggara consists of
two main islands Lombok and Sumbawa include some small
islands surrounding, while East Nusa Tenggara spans over 500
islands, are of among the Indonesian archipelago, the main
islands are Flores, Sumba and Timor. Lombok lies on the
“Wallace line” with half the island features tropical humid
climate and other half is an arid savanna, the island to the
east are far more similar in climate to Australia than the
tropic to the west, separated by deep ocean beds, these
islands have maintained strong individual identities and
provide the visitors with fascinating colorful mixed of
culture, language and religion.
SUMBAWA
Sumbawa has a greater landmass
than Lombok and Bali. The island is far less developed for
tourism that its westerly neighbor, which provide a great
experience for discovery travel. Sumbaw’s wave regularly
attracts surfers from around the world, determined to find
the perfect un-crowded break but the majority of the
interior is untouched by foreign influences.
KOMODO
East of Sumbawa lies Komodo
island, in which the only prehistoric animal, Komodo dragon
or the Giant Lizard still exist. This National park is
famous for its wildlife with distinctive fauna species
rarely found elsewhere.The Komodo dragon whose amazing speed
and carnivorous behavior attract nature lover from all over
the globe. Named ‘ORA’ by the local population, these
lizards are not so distance relative to the dinosaur, which
roamed the earth million of years ago.
FLORES
To the east is the beautiful
island of Flores (Portuguese for lower), an elongated
landmass featuring spectacular volcanoes, mountains, and
valleys. The largest of the Eastern Nusa Tenggara chain of
islands. Flores was an important trading link in the region
for centuries and its many well positioned ports were
visited by many foreign powers. The result is an island with
an amazingly varied culture and one of the most fascinating
destinations in south-east Asia. Although the majority of
the populations are Catholic, traditional believes still
very strong and visitors can experience a variety of ancient
rituals and festivals.
SUMBA
South of Flores is the island
Sumba, particularly known for its ikat weaving and Pasola
festival. This annual ritual is held during February and
March in West Sumba and coincides with arrivals of thousand
of colorful sea worm. A mock battle is held and hundreds of
combatants on horseback hurl spears at each other as they
charge around the battleground. Although the government has
decried that the weapons must not be sharp, serious injuries
are commonplace and reveal the strong warriors culture that
still exist. Ikat weaving is in Central East Sumba,
tradition that has survived for hundreds of years using
natural fibres and dyes.
WEST TIMOR
West Timor is the most
populated area in the Nusa Tenggara province and benefits
from the better infrastructure from the nearby islands. The
rewgion’s provincial capital Kupang is situated here. Timor
island has turbulent island but the adventurous travelers
offers a wealthy of natural beauty and varied culture. West
and east Nusa Tenggara is the undiscovered jewel of
Indonesia.
LOMBOK AND
SUMBAWA EXPLORATION

NIGHTS

Day 1. LOMBOK-SUMBAWA (L,D)
Depart towards Labuhan Lombok
harbor, take an hour and half ferry to Sumbawa’s Poto Tano
harbor in the west. Enjoy ride through island’s inner land
of mountainous area and the swampy coastline. Visit Bungin
island in the offshore of the island. Arrive in the island’s
western capital, Sumbawa Besar, overnight.
Day 2. MOYO ISLAND NATIONAL
PARK (B,L,D)
Breakfast at hotel, visit Moyo
island National Park known for its wealthy fauna species as
well as its offshore beauty, enjoy snorkeling, swimming and
sun bathing. At noon re-sail to Sumbawa overnight.
Day 3. CITY SIGHT SEEING-LOMBOK
(B,L)
Breakfast at hotel, depart for
City Sight seeing tour visiting Dalam Loka Sultanate Palace,
traditional weaving village, fisherman village, traditional
market then onwards to Poto Tano harbor to catch ferry to
Lombok. End of service.
