
Lombok Mataram City
Mataram City comprises of 4 centers: ampenan, the old port; Mataram, the administration center; cakranegara, the commercial area And sweta one of the biggest bus station inter island connecting Bali and Sumbawa Island.
AMPENAN
The furthest west part of mataram city is the old port town of ampenan. The descendants of early Chinese and Arab traders settled here in a maze of shop houses, although trading has long since ceased, and the warehouses on the coast and other heritage buildings are interesting relics of the past. An interesting point is that one of these old building is used to receive waste cardboard from allover mataram, collected usually by men balancing huge loads on their bicycles amazingly; 60 tonnes is shipped out of it to Surabaya for recycling each month! Today ampenan has a square and an esplanade attracting particularly local people around sunset. North and south of the main area are active fishing communities and Chinese cemeteries. Ampenan has a selection of restaurant, antique, pearl and art shops, In the right season, there are mountains of durian (love or hate the smell of it) to buy or eat there. On the northern border of ampenan is a bus terminal, a secondary public transport hub for the city, the jumping-off point to the tourist resort of senggigi a few kilometers up the coast. Nearby are numerous gold and furniture shops (and golf driving rangel).
BUDDHIST TEMPLE
Just near the entrance to the ampenan port is a Buddhist temple.
LOANG BALOK GRAVE YARD
Also at tanjung karang, this grave site is for an Islamic cleric. People go there to wish for luck in their lives and tie a piece of plastic onto the roots of a large tree within the grounds.
SEGARA TEMPLE
The northern of the harbour town of ampenan, there is a hindu temple on segara beach, in a traditional fishing village, pondok perasi. You can watch the sunset, swim and buy the fresh fish catch off the fishing boats.
MUSEUM WEST NUSA TENGGARA
Also to the east of ampenan is the west nusa tenggara province’s museum. Shaped to resemble a sasak dwelling, it is located on jalan panji tilar, ampenan, As well as housing many historical many historical artifacts from Lombok and its surrounding area, the museum a I so possesses a 1239 manuscript in which the ancient history of the area was written using a native language which is no longer used, Due to the lack of paper in those days, the text was written onto lontar (dried palm leaves), bark and bamboo.
CULTURAL CENTER
The cultural centre of Mataram, taman budaya, is located on Jl. Majapahit. It has advertised events covering a range of interest.
POST OFFICE
East of taman budaya, (which changes to Jl. Sriwijaya) is the main post office of mataram. It has internet facilities and a poste restante. Sekarbela and pagesangan. To the south of taman budaya, on Jl. Sultan kahudin, sekarbela and pagesangan, are many pearl and gold shops. Involved in the sale of this beautiful item. You’ll see many different styles of jewellery decorated with pearls, including earrings, rings, necklaces, lockets, brooches and beads.
