East Kalimantan’s main attraction is the culture of Dayak tribe who live in long house along the rivers which crisscross the province. One of the most scenic trips in East Kalimantan is sailing upstream the Mahakam  River.The people,who live in remote areas along the river maintain their beliefs in supernatural and ancestral worship.

Kersik Luway is known for its orchid forest which is supervised by the Nature Preservation and Conservation Dorectorate Of particular interest is the black orchid which blooms between September and December.

Lamin House is a traditional house for Dayak Kenyah tribe's in Samarinda. The height of this house is 3 meter from ground and occupant 30 family. In the angle of the house is decorated with the head of dragon. There are alots of Blontang's statue which explain gods as the guard of the house or village.

DAYAK PUNAN GLANCE ( Northern Route )
14 Days/13 Nights

Day 1 ARRIVAL BALIKPAPAN, TARAKAN ( D)
Upon arrival at Balikpapan airport, meeting service and transfer to check-in for flight to Tarakan (14:00), upon arrival at Tarakan, transfer out to Hotel, for dinner and overnight.

Day 2 TARAKAN, MALINAU (BLD)
After Breakfast arranging permit to enter Kayan Mentarang National Park, afterwards cross the Sulawesdi sea to Malinau village, for overnight at local house.

Day 3 MALINAU (BLD)
After simple breakfast surrounding Malinau village to get a first impression of the way of life of the local Dayak people, and preparing for the trek, meals and overnight at local house.

Day 4 MALINAU, TREKKING LONG UMUNG ( BLD )
Early morning after breakfast start trekking for about 6 hours through the forest to Long Umung village, on the way you will explore the diversity of the Flora and Fauna, meals on the way, overnight at local house.

Day 5  LONG UMUNG, TREKKING WAYAGUNG (BLD)
In the morning continue trekking through the forest to Wayagung village, and explore the way of the settled Punan tribe, meals on the way, overnight at local house.

Day 6 & 7 WAYAGUNG TREKKING LONG SEPAYANG (BLD)
Full day trekking through the untouched rainforest, if lucky on the way you can meet the nomadic  Dayak Punan, overnight at jungle camp, meals on the way.

Day 8  LONG SEPAYANG TREKKING KELIPAL (BLD)
After simple breakfast trekking through the rough mountains to Kelipal village, on the way you can discover the flora and fauna, overnight at local house.

Day 9 & 10 KELIPAL TREKKING BANG BIAU, LONG BERANG (BLD)
Full day trekking through virgin forest and hilly area, overnight at local house, meals on the way.

Day 11&12 LONG BERANG, MALINAU (BLD)
Continue by motor canoe downstream via small rivers to Malinau village, overnight at local hosue, meals on the way.

Day 13 MALINAU, TARAKAN (BLD)
Breakfast, afterwards by boat crossing the Sulawesi sea to Tarakan Island, check in at Hotel, dinner at local restaurant.

Day 14 TARAKAN,BALIKPAPAN (B)
Morning flight at 10:00 AM from Tarakan to Balikpapan, from where you can connect with an early afternoon flight to your next destination.
